Political Continuity

Similar to previous colonial eras, the Dutch seized control of trade of domestically produced agriculture (like the rice, sugar & coffee cultivation). The Dutch, and the Portuguese (the previous colonial power) focused on gaining a share of tradings taking place along the archipelago.

NEW!  The old port and capital city of Indonesia was the same place during the Dutch colonization. It is renamed as Batavia and continues to remain as the Dutch East Indies' capital! Here, you can find Indonesians and Chinese Immigrants flocking to this place because of its commercial opportunities. Be sure to watch this place as new developments might turn this area, now only filled with villages, to an attractive trading port!

Be careful though, piracy is still eminent on Dutch East Indies' waters. The Dutch government is still trying to eliminate piracy.

Batavia
Batavia too!

While touring around the island of Batavia, you might be surprised to note that prior to the Dutch rule, this place was also the center of the previous empires. Similarly, Batavia is now the place where the Dutch powers are centered at.

As the Dutch started the cultivation of valuable plants such as coffee and tea, they have decided to concentrated their efforts on this island - strategically located along trade routes and having fertile soils makes it a good choice to do so. Be sure to take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful sights of these plantations!
